The Phantom Bridegroom
Nobody tells a ghost story quite like Washington Irving of Sleepy Hollow fame, and this adaptation of a different short story of his from the 1800s is no exception! Twenty-one year old Mirabel Barnes is captivated by a man appearing on horseback every evening outside her bedroom window, where she lives with her father and two spinster aunts in rural North Carolina. Quite the romantic, she is convinced this mysterious stranger appears each dusk intentionally to see her. Her romantic fantasies are disrupted, though, when her father shares that he has invited the son of an old friend to meet and court her. Though she protests this arrangement, she is taken by surprise to discover that her unknown nightly visitor on horseback is indeed Emerson Stanton, the man her father arranged for her to meet. After a lovely evening with the family, Mr. Stanton divulges an even bigger surprise he is already deceased and is merely a phantom of his former self! Could it be that this charming gentleman is actually a ghost? The answer to this lies in Mr. Stanton s third surprise, which you ll just have to read for yourself!
