The Stars Go Down
Nancy has sacrificed everything for her career as a writer, but now that she is dying, or thinks
she is, there is nobody to comfort her, except her characters. The characters, who Nancy calls
manifestations of her sodding subconscious , discuss her death and their characterisation. Her
publisher arrives to tell her she is passe. There is a flashback to Nancy and her real-life lover,
Johnny, some forty years earlier, which reveals how she let nothing get in the way of her
vocation.
