Joey, the Hackie" comes into an empty theatre to pick up an expected taxi fare. Being a fan and a buff of old-time vaudeville, burlesque and musical comedy, Joey reminisces and even sings about the nostalgic "good old days" in show business. When he accidentally is hit on the head by a falling sandbag, he awakens to find himself embroiled within the plot and performance of an old-style melodrama. The play-within-a-play takes place in the year 1883. A salty and feisty old lady who owns a baseball team in Fort Wayne, Indiana is about to lose her franchise to an ambitious and conniving baseball manager. This vile villain yearns for and pursues the spunky owner s beautiful, young daughter who, in turn, has a boyfriend, the star pitcher of the ball club. The team s vamp as well as the three cheerleader/batgirls all try to help Joey and the club owner to thwart the villainous manager. Simultaneously, the beautiful daughter and the young, hero-type pitcher are able to find love and each other before the finale. (Contains some mature dialogue that may offend some audiences.)
