The musical-comedy team of Porter and Perry has turned this classic Horatio Alger story into another hit musical melodrama that played to cheering houses over two seasons in Los Angeles. The story involves the disappearance of a child from the household of his wealthy father, John Linden. The youngster has been kidnapped by the villainous Curtis Waring, John Linden s nephew, who hopes to inherit the family fortune. The youngster, now grown, lives a precarious life on the streets of New York. When Linden s lovely ward, Florence, rejects the unwanted attentions of Waring, she is disinherited, forced to live in a tenement and work in a sweatshop.until it is discovered that the young man who befriends her is, in reality, Linden s long lost son. In true Horatio Alger (and melodrama) style, the young couple is reunited, "Uncle John" finds his true son, and Waring pays for his evil deeds.
