Daniel Paul Schreber, a judge, spent ten years in asylums as a schizophrenic and wrote his memoirs there. What happened to Schreber after he left Sonnenstein is not certain. It is said that his family bought up most copies of his memoirs and destroyed them. There is some evidence that when his wife died, four years after his discharge, he was again admitted to an asylum and died there five years later.
