The Normal Heart
Set in New York in the early 1980s, this powerful, passionate and controversial play was the first to treat seriously the poignant and awesome subject of AIDS, following a writer's struggle to break through indifference and hypocrisy surrounding the killer disease and his attempt to draw attention to the plight of the gay community in contemporary America. After a successful New York run, the play was acclaimed in London and the Royal Court Theatre with Martin Sheen in the central role.
