This collection of Australian plays is a first: it is a celebration of homosexuality and its diversity in Australian theatre. It provokes a rethinking of the nature of gay and lesbian drama, and ranges from established works in the Australian repertoire to plays first seen in Mardi Gras festivals. The plays in this volume look at issues as varied as lesbian custody battles, desire in the trenches of Gallipoli, same-sex interracial relationships and surviving through the AIDS epidemic. The collection showcases Australian drama inspired by the richness of lesbian and gay lives and experiences and counters the limitations of narrow definitions and concepts of homosexual art.
