The Bald Soprano follows the course of a disasterous dinner party in whichproper Englishmen (and women) lose the power to communicate. What makes this comedy so beloved is their valor and sangfroid as the characters struggle to connect. On they go - through boredom, amnesia and finally total collapse of language itself.
InThe Lesson a professor becomes increasingly unhinged trying to teach his student the fundamentals of arithmetic and philology. In his desperation to get through to her, his words spin increasingly out of control with deadly results. The fact that the poor girl is the fortieth victim that day lifts the play into delirious farce.
