For the Benefit of Doreen
Six main characters (mainly female but flexible) plus a host of incidental characters, with lots of doubling/tripling allowed. Single minimalist set (desk, chairs, and a few props)
Doreen Tipton, and her daughters Trojan, Tangerine and Taser, shot to infamy when 'Doreen's Story' went viral on social media, clocking up over a million hits virtually overnight.
Soon, not having a job became a full-time career for the First Lady of the State, as Doreen became the first person ever to be diagnosed with Lazy Cow Syndrome. Documentaries, radio interviews, award-winning stage shows, books and even a movie followed, as the appetite for all things Doreen showed no signs of abating.
Even Led Zeppelin rock legend Robert Plant was keen to get in on the act, with a rare cameo performance in the movie.
Now, the original touring stage show which helped to launch Doreen's idle phenomenon has been specially adapted for amateur societies.
?This sizzling satire of modern Britain offers a wealth of opportunity for ambitious societies to present their local audiences with an evening of theatre which is totally unique, hilarious, thought-provoking and, most of all, fantastic fun to produce.
?Just one tip. Don't be tempted to copy the original Doreen. Create your own characters, set them in your own locality, with your own natural dialect. And let the words do the rest.
