Charley's Aunt
Scheming students Charley and Jack must somehow navigate the curmudgeonly Spettigue in order to declare their feelings to love interests Amy and Kitty. The promised arrival of Charley's immensely rich aunt gives them their opportunity but the course of true love never did run straight or smooth...
Mistaken identities, false identities, the discovery of true identities: will love old and new triumph through it all?
Brandon Thomas's celebrated farce Charley's Aunt was first performed in 1892 and broke the record for longest-running play worldwide. It is brought bang up to date in this glamorous glow-up by the creator of the multi-award-winning My Son s a Queer (But What Can You Do?). Rob Madge's adaptation of Charley's Aunt opened last year at the Watermill Theatre, Newbury.
With eight larger-than-life roles and plenty of opportunities for bold and adventurous design, this joyous modern makeover of the original is a sheer joy to perform and watch.
Casting Note: the part of Babbs should be played by somebody proudly gender ?uid.
