Set against the futuristic society of the World State, where human beings are genetically bred into a strict caste system, individuality is spurned, and conformity is celebrated, this chilling tale of an alarming tomorrow depicts an existence where real emotion is rare and true freedom is nowhere to be found. The play follows Bernard Marx, a man who considers himself to be an outsider; Lenina Crowne, who senses she is meant for something more than pleasure and escapism; and John the Savage, who longs to be a part of this civilized culture. Their paths and interactions lead them into the uncharted territories of friendship, love, lust and outrage, culminating in a rebellious outbreak against the technology that reins them in, the mind-numbing drugs they are fed daily, and the regime that seeks to control their spirits as well as their souls.
