A Bright Room Called Day
From the Pulitzer Prize winning author of ANGELS IN AMERICA comes this powerful portrayal of individual dissolution and resolution in the face of political catastrophe.
The main action takes place inside the cozy apartment of Agnes Eggling, a middle-aged character actress, between January 1, 1932, and November 12, 1933. Agnes and her circle of artistic and politically progressive friends including her Hungarian lover Husz, the gay activist Gregor, and the communist-leaning Annabella gather to drink, celebrate New Year's Eve, and talk politics. As Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party tighten their grip on Germany, the friends are forced to confront the unthinkable. They struggle to choose between moral integrity, active resistance, escape, or paralyzed survival.
